What was suppose to be an 5 hr drive to Beijing from Xinzhou turned to be 11hrs. On the way we saw 2 traffic accidents. Then we were forced to drive in the wrong direction on the freeway because the cars piled up more and more. In china, if there is a space on the road, there will be people driving. I can't imagine how any police or ambulance can get through to the scene of the accident. We waited in the traffic jam for hours and hours then finally got on another highway that would lead us to Beijing. People who really needed to use the bathroom actually stood on top of their trucks and started peeing onto the roads. This was China.
At a security check point, I was asked "Oh, 你不是中国人啊?" I could only reply with I don't have a Chinese Identification Certificate. But I will always be Chinese.
Before the semester started. I decided to explore the city on my own and I got on the wrong bus twice. I found that if you spoke Chinese without any accent, the locals were less willing to help you, because you blended in too well ><
